Manners Matter at a Fine Dining Restaurant
Manners matter everywhere, but they matter a whole lot more at a fine dining restaurant. Don’t worry, we’re not talking about knowing which fork to use first. We’re just talking about some basic courtesy and dining etiquette. Here’s what to remember and how to behave when you’re dining at DC STEAKHOUSE.
Dress Code
One of the first things you should do is check to see if the restaurant has a dress code. Business casual is usually appropriate—dress like you’re going to a job interview or a wedding. Don’t wear anything faded, dirty, or torn, and wear shoes not sandals.
Volume
We love that you're having a good time! But you have to be considerate of the people around you. But please keep your conversation to a low volume, especially important if your group is discussing private or controversial subjects. If you need to get the conversation back on track with some light-hearted topics, here are a few ideas.
Respect
Respecting the other patrons and the restaurant staff is important. Keep language and tone civil. Remember everyone is there for the same reason, to have a good time. Respecting others will help it happen.
If you need service, catch their eye, and gently raise your hand, or give a small nod. You can also place down your menu, or utensils to signal you are finished. Avoid snapping your fingers, shouting or whistling for attention.
Company
While not everyone agrees with it, we do suggest keeping children at home. Especially those under the age of 6. Children are still learning their manners and might be disruptive to other diners. So rather than come for a family meal, book a romantic table for two or celebrate your next special occasion with your closest friends.
Screen Time
A fine dining restaurant is not the place for long phone calls, loud videos, or constant clicking from computer keys. So leave the tablets and computers at home, turn your phone to silent, and enjoy the experience.
Table Manners
Eating is the best part, and once the food arrives, there still are some basic manners to remember:
Chew with your mouth closed, and wait to speak until your bite is finished.
Use your napkin to wipe your fingers or mouth.
Don’t put your feet on the table, or lean on the back two legs of your chair.
To avoid spills, ask for something to be passed to you rather than reaching over others or across the table for it.
